Starting in 2020, his research into tapestry combines the photographic medium with textiles to create contemporary tapestries.

Stéphane Couturier began an exploration of two tapestry masterpieces: the 14th-century "Tenture de l'Apocalypse" and the 20th-century tapestries of Jean Lurçat's "Chant du Monde." Collaboration with the weavers at Atelier 3 has led to the creation of a first low-warp tapestry, other one's are currently in progress.

In 2024, Stéphane Couturier was selected as the winner of a call for projects to create two tapestries for the 800th anniversary of Beauvais Cathedral. Led by the Mobilier National, the central idea behind this project is to reinterpret two masterpieces of tapestry : The Apocalypse tapestry medieval master piece in Chateau d'Angers and Jean Lurçat's “Chant du Monde” cycle, created in the 1950s. Using biblical motifs and symbols, these two tapestries pay homage to medieval tradition while offering a contemporary interpretation of the themes of the Apocalypse. The project is expected to be completed around 2029.
